9:30 - 10:30 - Session A: Materials Accounting Refresher (All Participants)
Chemical reactions, mixtures, materials flows, and fugitive air emissions can confound materials accounting for TRI and TURA reporting and planning. In this plenary session, Dwight Peavey of EPA Region 1 (whom many of you know from spring Reporting Workshops) will discuss some of these challenges, and present workshop examples that illustrate how to account for them.

10:45 - 12:15 - Concurrent Morning Sessions B & C - Please Choose One

Session B: TSCA and REACH Update

Last June, President Obama signed the Frank R. Lautenberg Chemical Safety for the 21st Century Act. The Lautenberg Act updates the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) for the first time since the law was adopted in 1976. Rachel Massey, Policy Program Manager at TURI, will provide an introduction to key provisions of the Lautenberg Act and an overview of implementation activities at EPA that will be of interest to TUR filers. The session will also include brief updates on new requirements under the European Union's REACH regulation.

Session C: Creating a Safer, Healthier Work Environment
As TUR Planners, we focus on minimizing the use of listed toxic chemicals. One reason for doing so is to create a safer working environment for our employees. In this session, we'll learn more about occupational exposure to toxic chemicals and, using real life examples, explore ways that toxics use reduction planning can help companies avoid these kinds of incidents. Speakers from the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards and The New England Consortium will contribute their expertise to the discussions.

1:15 - 4:00 - Concurrent Afternoon Sessions D & E, F - Please Choose One

Session D: Cleaning and Degreasing

Come to this session to learn how to keep your manufacturing soils, grime, and greases from disrupting your production line and degrading product quality. Case studies, databases, and other tools from the TURI Cleaning Lab will be discussed and demonstrated.

Session E: Using Safety Data Sheets (SDS's) for Planning
New SDS's conforming to the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) are helpful planning tools - but they do have limitations. Delve into how to analyze for accuracy, completeness, and utility, and how to interpret GHS terms and codes. We'll also cover how to find and use numerous additional resources on chemicals available from the TURI library and elsewhere. Bring your favorite (or least favorite) SDS for the group to evaluate!

Session F: Industrial Energy Efficiency
The Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center has conducted numerous in-depth energy efficiency assessments for industrial facilities in their state and will present some of these as case studies. These case studies will show how to understand various different utility charges, employ a systematic framework for identifying and prioritizing energy savings opportunities, and take advantage of financial incentives using real-life data. Session F qualifies for 2.5 RC (Energy) CE Credits
